Trust. It’s lacking in the world today. Let it not be lacking in the church. Especially among church staff.
We need to trust our fellow staff members but at the same time, have good and sensible controls in place for everyone’s protection. (including the body of believers you are serving).
As “Accounting Types”, we can come off to our colleagues as being less than trusting if we’re not careful…if we act as though, “it’s all ’bout that base” [of control]. It’s easy because internal controls lend themselves to that prejudice. So, take the time to explain where you’re coming from.
We must trust but we all must be accountable. We have to do what is right before God and man.
The integrity and trust the church has of its staff is at stake. If your church trusts its leaders, it’s an awesome thing. Do all it takes to keep it.
Lose the trust of the church you serve, you’ve lost. It can be difficult to get it back.
This leads to a single policy which under-girds everything else. I expand on it here.
